Just over a week ago, I bought some daffodils at Sainsbury in Newton Abbot.
They were 99p a bunch and were no more than the thickness of a pencil and in
tight bud. As they opened in the warmth of the house they emitted the most
lovely and rather penetrating scent. I don't think I've ever had daffs with
such a perfume. The flowers are not over-large, though not as small as Tete
a Tete and the trumpet is rather more orange than the petals, which are a
true yellow. They're only just beginning to fade now and everyone who has
come to the house has remarked on them! Does anyone happen to know which
variety they could be?

That's very kind of you, thank you! I can't recognise it from any of those
photos. But I emailed Sainsbury asking for the name and saying how lovely I
think the flowers etc. They replied thanking me for my kind remarks and
totally ignoring my query. Quite clearly they give customers' emails about
as much consideration as the RHS do!

you could try speaking with their suppliers. i know http://www.world-flowers.co.uk/ are one, whether they do their daffs and whether they would give out such info is another matter. most of the supermarket suppliers concentrate on varieties that look good and last long once cut within the cool chain, and scent is usually expendable for vase-life.

Why not take a digital photo Sacha and then send it to a daffodil
Society? (There's bound to be one)

More good ideas and suggestions and thank you. No, these are not in the
least like Paperwhites. More delicate but as pervasive, I'd say. I've had a
few suggestions of a helpful nature via email which I'm going to follow up.
