Highhedges are a whole different ball game.

Mmmm, I'll have to invoke that against my neighbour farmer in Normandy
who has planted a Leylandii hedge right up against our boundary and is
now threatening to shade my vines from the sun! His acacia tree on that
boundary is already about twenty foot high.

Actually I'm not sure that that is right because I know of plenty of
boundary hedges in Normandy which are much higher than that.

I wouldn't get involved in a legal action with your neighbour, in some
parts of rural France legal actions are almost a form of sport.

I wouldn't. I would set the local mayor on to him (with whom I have a
good working relationship).

It's all very well having principles (mis-guided as they are) but the
mortgage has to be paid. No one give you money. I have been out of work

for
nearly 6 weeks an no one pays my bills, I don't even qualify for JSA.

That's great, but I still wouldn't like to be part of the gang of binmen
round here (or binwomen as I would be) who are frankly disgusting with their
behaviour. They smoke on duty, swear at the top of their voices in a lovely
family area, have no respect for peoples gardens (one rolled the wheely bin
over our neighbours front flower bed the other week) leer at women and wind
my dogs up. We've complained to the council before, but they apparently
don't care, along with the noise complains about the next door pub amongst
other things.

Are you sure they are binmen?
They sound like MPs

You don't have to - you choose to, and in doing so you probably break the
law. I used to live on a fairly narrow road in Wargrave, the folks there
simply restricted their parking to one side of the road. In places where
the residents haven't show the sense to do this the local authority
eventually end up painting double yellow lines down one side of the road.

I don't think that parking cars on top of each other is a practical
alternative. Where would you suggest the residents park their cars?

Wheelie bin! chance would be a fine thing.
Should you not put the bin outside the gate, here in rural wiltshire if it
isn't outside the gate it isn't collected

Shame on them!

They probably have more important things to deal with.

along with the noise complaints about the next door pub amongst other

ISTR you were going to cut down some Leylandii trees a while back, I said
IIRC what about the noise from the pub and you said IIRC its a nice pub and
the noise wouldn't be a problem..........................?

Yeah, but instead of rolling it back up her driveway they rolled it onto her
front lawn. Lovely polite people.

No, we're cutting the trees half way so that they still block out most of
the noise. It's a nice pub, but recently the owner has started to leave his
son in charge. Club 18-30 DJ's anyone? Saturday night I could identify
every word being said by that blasted DJ untill 11.45pm.

You are not serious, right! Why should they roll it up her drive way is she
disabled?

run over by a wheely bin?

Our bin men don't actually touch the bins. The garbage truck picks the
bins up empties them and dumps them back on the pavement.

Like I say, if they don't do it in a reasonable manner, which includes
allowing for wheelchair users, emergency services access - there was a fire
station and old folks home on the road in Wargrave, then decisions are made
by others, not the residents. There is no automatic right to park your car
in front of you home - or even within walking distance.

So just inside the gate would be sufficient then?

Well yes it would have been if all properties had a gate. You know, some
peoples do just open onto the pavement without (shock) a gate.
