I admire you folks that can do that. I tried Ubuntu, but my hammer
and chisel background wasn't helpful.

I switched to linux using SuSe Linux. SuSe 7.x, 8.x and 9.x were great but
the Novell era and it's company policy changed everything..

So the last SuSe I installed was 9.0.. ;-(

But openSuSe 10.3 has indeed recovered so next week I'll install it
permanently in dual-boot beside Unix..

[...]

OpenSuSe is an easy to install linux distribution and has an exceeding
driver support respectively hardware detection..

Hi..

My pond has been shrinking. We've had no rain here in this part of

in it.

Well I'm sorry to hear that but I'm also someone who loves to see the funny
side of something. And this is why your report made me thinking about a
Fango Pond Advertising Campaign (fango pond bath, fango pond treatment,
fango pond packs) - or at least a Mud Wrestling Pond Campaign..! :-)

Even though I have no fish (that I know of) various critters
have staked their "generational lives" on the premise that it won't
become just a damp depression in the ground. I feel some sense of
duty to those critters, I'm almost a god to them...

We had a boring wet summer. No sun but slugs without end..

I sent this yesterday (10/19) but I didn't see it reach the group, nor the
moderating page?

I've been busy putting the ponds to bed. Last weekend everything got
trimmed, and/or removed from the ponds and the screens put on. This weekend
I'll be putting the filter in winter mode, or shutting down completely
(lily pond). Looking forward to winter's break.... but not winter itself.

Are we having fun with Vista and older software? I'm staying with XP
as long as I can and I wish you well with whatever you are working on.

Good for you for sticking with XP. I have Windows running on my Mac (in
addition to the Mac OS), and if you need you use Windows, this is the
tried and true.

Interesting. This thread about computers and software, including posts from
invalid email addresses has been going on for a while, yet my post about
Jun's "pond" never showed up AFAIK. Nor was I notified at my correctly
stated email address as to the reason. Also, my sig is only four lines.

I don't care whether you post this or not. Just an observation.

I'm not seeing all my posts recently either for some reason, yet I see them
when someone replies to them. I tried several newsservers and they all show
missing messages. I'm wondering if I'll see this message. I'm also
wondering how many posts are not appearing that myself and perhaps others
are missing.

Also sent one that I never saw on the

As a matter of fact, I'm using Agent (a Windows program) with
Wine running Linux right now. Vista's not quite as straightforward
right now but I have a dual-boot machine running Linux and Vista. It's
a little harder (not much) but it can be done. I don't want to say
it's so easy even a caveman can do it, but it is certainly not beyond
pondfolk.

Thanks, I'll make a note for the cold days of winter.

I admit to running Vista at work. But at least I use VMWare and have
both Debian linux and WinXP images that I can run if I need to be able
to do something else.

On my servers (I'm a system admin) I run Debian natively use VMWare
images to run all of our production services (the vast majority of them
are also Debian). I'll probably switch to VMWare ESXi sometime (their
new product which basically IS an OS).

odd you should mention. just today I gave my students an article to read
http://www.unc.edu/news/archives/apr...apy040405.html
discussing a scientific basis for treating SAD. I dont suffer like my mother did. I
also dont have to get up early and I do like the little twinkle lights and because
the birds are where I sleep there is a night light on, the TV is always on (volume
way down, lights flickering) and the birds wake me in the morning to their singing.
However, a friend has to get up and go to work at the crack of dawn so I went looking
for a dawn simulator for her and the least expensive way is a "plug" that turns any
lamp into a light that slowly ups the brightness in the room over 1/2 hour.

SAD isn't my problem, as I'm not depressed, or unmotivated. I would just
prefer to sleep longer. After much needed sleep this weekend, and an
on-time bedtime Sunday night, I was up 15 minutes before my alarm
Monday morning. I'm currently up before the crack of dawn till the time
changes. ~ jan

Sorry if I seem to make a joke of anyone's difficulties in life. It
is just that my problem is more like lazy ass disorder, or LAD, which
is not seasonal. It get worse as I get older too.
