Let it dry, then pick it up.
For shoulder sitting, a washable pad worked for me with the cockatiels.

I play with Freya mostly in her aviary and the floor is covered with
wood shavings so it's not an issue. She has never pooped on me yet, but
the 'tiels did. I just washed it off.

It's not like it's terribly smelly or anything.

My Hahn's macaw needs physical contact for about 4 hours a day. She

Mika is trained to go poop on command. So, it's up to me to remember
to "poop" her about every ten minutes. Birds poop every ten or so
minutes. It takes that long for a bird to digest and they poop very
often.

I also built Mika a gym to be stationed at all day in the living room.
She can fly around to the hanging I put under the skylite for her and
she has three forage stations with different types of food. She has
it reallly good!

I have papers down and she knows to poop on her papers. It's very
easy to train a bird to go poop on command. We taught her in a half
hour.

Like I explained in the other post, she's poop trained. Where she has
an accident, the trick is to leave it there to dry and it scrapes
right off with the end of the vacuum tube. We do not have poop all
over the house. She knows her gym area is safe to poop, and on her
papers. Every so often she poops on my husband, but that's because he
forgets she has to poop every ten minutes or so. She also does this
little shake of her tushie when she has to go and lets me know to put
her over her paper, or the basket.

Oh yes, she has everything a bird needs. I also use a mortar and
pestal to crush up eggshells and I add them to her treat bread. I
also use The Missing Link for Avians.

Yep, between ten and fifteen minutes. But this is something you can
get used to. It's not like there is poop all over my house, or even
anywhere in the room! This is why when chosing a bird it is also good
to consider the size. Mika is about 15 inches head to tail. She's
about the size of a bluejay. Her poops are sized accordingly. A
Scarlet Macaw is a huge bird which is approximately 30 inches long,
head to tail with a 5 foot wingspan and their loads are hardly called
poops! Plops, maybe

Hyacinth Macaws, the largest of all the parrots and decidedly the most
beautiful in nature are about 40 inches long head to tail and have a
six or seven foot wingspan. Huge o mundo turds!

However, they are really easy to tend if you keep up on the hygiene of
their cages and day areas. My bird is only in her cage at night to
sleep. Birds require at least 10-12 hours of uninterrupted sleep per
night. Other than that, she is never in her cage. Such fun, really.

You may want to find a more current source of information. That was
14 years ago. All parrots in the United States are bred here in
captivity, banded, numbered and the breeders are licensed.

I'm only familiar with Texas, but a baby hatched here doesn't have to be by
a breeder that is licensed, I have a proven pair of Amazon's and there is
not a license for me to obtain even if I wanted one. Banding does not have
to be done. A closed leg band, if used, can say whatever the breeder wants.

Best to really do a lot of research before you do anything. You also
need to consider their diet. They need daily fresh fruit and
vegetables, along with several hours of physical play and a huge cage
which would cost about 600 and up.

Ok dude (dudette?), take a breather. I'm not going to run out and buy a
parrot tomorrow. There's a big difference between "I would love a grey
parrot" to "I'm going to impulse-buy a grey parrot tomorrow". I'm not an
idiot and I would never, ever buy an animal I can't properly take care of.

Yes they do. They aren't a pet you can ignore and for all of their
positives there are an equal number of negatives (but for me, very much
worth it). My first parrot turned my life completely upside down. I've
lived with dogs and have always had cats, but sharing your life with a
parrot is like falling in love. Only another parrot person can understand.
Living with a parrot does not make one a parrot person.


I wasn't saying it so much for your sake, as I've known you from this
newsgroup for many years. I was saying it for people who are saying
it's fine to hold cats and birds together and nothing ever happens,
etc. While nothing may have happened YET, it's almost always a horror
story. If you ever want to discuss this to help you make an informed
decision, I would be more than happy to discuss it with you...really.
