Had a quick goggle........

expertgardener.com still comes up with 554 hits for the now non-existent site
:~))

Makes you wonder just how many redundant links there are out there?

A lot. My experience indicates that a good 30% are just plain broken,
and another 60% are automatically generated indirections. And, of
course, only about 10% of even the real, correct pages are useful.
So it is fair to say that the Web is 99% junk :-)

[ Back in the days when Web-like systems were being designed, I
rejected Berners-Lee's approach as unmanageable and a recipe for an
unsearchable pile of misinformation - so I backed a more structured
approach. Well, I was right, technically - and wrong, politically.
The story of my career, in a nutshell! ]

Nick Maclaren.

and what about the French's, lovely couple who I met at Kay's urg meet
and where is Jane Ransom, a wonderful contributor to urg and who also
sent me a personal urg badge with gold slippers on. I miss Cormaic
(Tony) very much, he was the most amusing, straight-talking but honest
person, I met him, Mrs. Taz, Slug Boy and their daughter, whose "pet
name" I can't remember now (Pest Girl?) at Kay's urg meet and also Alan
Holmes. Urg was so different then - I miss the good natured banter and
Cormaic's expletives!!

It was indeed different then, Judith. Alan Holmes now posts on
uk.food+drink.misc but I was under the impression that he still posted
here.

Pester Girl, I think. I hear from him occasionally and I'm sure Kay is in
touch with them regularly. But Cormaic is just too busy to spend time at
urg, I think. Shame. And I think Jane just got fed up with the way urg was
going, unfortunately - too many trolls and rude people about, though I have
the impression we're beginning to see the wood as well as the trees!
Chris and Helen are up to their eyes in their gorgeous anklebiters, so
probably not much computer time is available to them but Chris posted here a
while ago, I think. Alan has been posting lately.

Jim seems to have returned to us, as has Jill, I hope! BTW, shouldn't that
badge have had one gold slipper - and a chamber pot? ;-) I think you
should re-tell the chamber pot story one of these days, it really was a gem.
I remember that it sparked an unfinished (AFAIR) discussion about putting
some of the best and most amusing 'urg moments' onto the webring.

The French's are still here intermittently; must be even busier now
with two infants. They post from their new (but old, IYKWIM) walled
garden near Cambridge. I'd rather like to know how they're getting on
with that, especially the large inherited topiary :-)

I'm often in Cambridge at meetings and I would love to see Chris and
Helen again - perhaps if you are reading this Chris/Helen, could you
email me?

Did you mean Alan Holmes of the organic gardening or the Alan Holmes who
has posted here recently - remember there are 2 of them, but quite,
quite, different styles of personality and gardening. I met the latter
Alan in Leeds with his wife, he was utterly charming and enjoyed my
lasagne - well, at least he said he did.

I don't think I can,I am still in shock - it brings the smell to mind -
I swear I can still smell it when I am walking up that staircase.

'Organic Alan' is Alan Gould, isn't he?

Ohhhhh yes, I told you that I was having a problem with my memory -
just put it down to a senior moment (again)
