hi everyone there must be something about Alan to get all of this
attention, why is everyone going on about ground force he did other programs
too!How to be a gardener was excellent,& nothing against Monty don but
gardeners world isn't the same anymore.Ground force with Alan was better too
at least he explained the plants details.GF Yankee style is watchable, only
because I like anything to do with the garden.UK version not much better!
Martin hasn't a clue you cant suffer over exposure if you keep the viewers
entertained, look at the soaps, they've been going on donkeys years,so has
gardeners world!I could watch Alan on the box everynight & not get bored! And
could garden everyday.

sadly he long ago stopped entertaining lots of us.

look at the soaps,

compare EE's viewing figures to ten years ago.

Lucky you. I have almost stopped watching TV. There's a limit to the
number of times I can watch a repeat of a program.

I can't say exactly why I don't like him, there's just something about him.
I could never stand Paul Daniels either or Dame Edna Everage. Maybe they all
have something in common that I can't see, apart from being a complete pain
when they're on TV of course.

Same here.
He is a good gardener, knows his stuff (especially taking cuttings!!),
etc etc etc
BUT I can't abide him on the box !
I have a theory that it's because he's so NICE - one can have too much
of a good thing !

I feel the same way about Racheal De Tame and that Beardshaw bloke. And I
cant stand Dairimud (sp?) Gavin!!!!

Alan Titchmarch though I quite liked , although I had my reservations about
him when he took over GW from Geoff Hamilton.

Although I think Monty Don is making a good job of GW now, I wonder if the
BBC are going to try and sideline him in favour of RdeT and Swift ( another
one I cant stand!) and Co. No, more than that I think they are sidelining
him and will try to remove him by the next series in fav our of the crap
presenters they want to put in!

lets face it , they only put him there in the first place because of the
uproar!

I agree about RdT but do find that Beardshaw grows on you. Maybe if

Prettier I suspect. Young, good looking is the motto for most
programmes these days, and experience seems to have vanished by the
wayside.

Also there is the point about production companies. Folk here are
still shredding AT about his GWs, forgetting that it was an indie
company that was producing the programme and bringing in all this
'trendy' stuff. I haunt the BBC message boards too, and the number of
whinges about this company (and the then-GW producer in particular)
were getting out of control, especially as they seemed impervious to
what the viewers on the boards wanted.

This year, the BBC took it back 'in-house' and it's now oodles better,
even if they did have to inherit the pretty crew. It was the same with
Geoff H - an in-house job. The Beeb really is still much better than
the trendies with their production values and camerawork, imho!

I wish I had access to enough archives to see when the complaints
began and when the indie folk took over, and if there's a time link...
My suspicion is that if AT had been fronting a BBC production, a lot
more folk would be positive about him.

jane, who still thinks GW should have the old GeoffH music and is a
confirmed GQT listener... but likes AT and Monty. (Never saw much of
GeoffH so I don't really have an opinion on him. Now why don't they
repeat THOSE programmes instead of interminable rubbish... :-)

OK, we've done telly, now let's slag off *Gardeners' Question Time*.
Eric Robson's irritating leer, and the constant gormless tittering,
echoed in a rather embarrassed way by the audience: I wouldn't go to
Mark Steele for gardening advice, and I wouldn't go to Pippa Greenwood
for jokes -- once when I used to listen to it they started chortling
before the question had even been *asked*. A friend of mine had a
question on one of the write-in programmes, and they didn't give a
serious answer at all: she was much miffed. I think it may have been
Geoffrey Smith who really got the unfunny wisecracks built into the
format: a pity, as I could listen to him talk about gardening all
night, taking notes all the time. And they all seem to stop the
giggles for the out-and-about bits where there isn't an audience,
which I really used to like.

I feel better now!

Mike.

David Dickenson!! He's in a class of his own! Superb!! There is no one
else quite like david on the telly - I think they threw away the mould
when he was made :-)

The guy who does the flying gardener is the one that I have some
reservations about - he seems to talk about garden design with authority
most of the time but sometimes bullsh*t seems to creep in to his lines on
occassion. (trying to put it diplomatically).

Regards,

Paul.
